We now have an official release date for the new Xbox Live Dashboard update after some time we have been dealing with the issue. The new Xbox Live firmware, which will bring Twitter, Facebook, and Last.fm to the console, will be available for download next week, on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. Microsoft will also be releasing Zune Video, which promises instant-on 1080p video streaming as well as 5.1 surround sound in addition to these services. Please note that Twitter, Facebook, and Last.fm will require an Xbox Live Gold membership (cost $50/year) and both Twitter and Facebook services require all users to be at least 18 years of age. Major Nelson, Microsoft spokesperson, announced on his blog that "unauthorized Memory Units will no longer work with the Xbox 360" once consumers download and install the system's anticipated November update. While the move is meant to thwart piracy, it's also incited some backlash from Xbox 360 gamers. What's on the update? Facebook and Twitter functionality, 1080p HD movies on-demand through Zune video, streaming music through Last.fm, and news services through MSNBC -just to name a few- are packed inside. At issue is the fact that a standard, first-party Microsoft memory card holds a rather paltry 512 MB of storage and retails for $29.99. Gamewatch: Uncharted 2, Brutal Legend, Mario & Sonic Jack Black is just the sort of lovable spaz that could lend Brutal Legend (Xbox 360, PS3) the personality it needs to help lift the music genre out of its plastic-tapping doldrums. As Eddie Riggs (voiced by Black), you get to explore a world cribbed from all those trippy phantasmagoric heavy metal albums of yore (back when they still used words like 'yore' in the song lyrics, too). The soundtrack's quite extensive, as well the voice cast, which includes Rob Halford, Lita Ford, Ozzy Osbourne, and Tim Curry. The Beatles are still breaking records for album sales. EMI Group PLC says consumers in North America, Japan and the U.K. bought more than 2.25 million copies of the Fab Four's re-mastered albums in the first five days after their Sept. 9 release. Most of the records were broken for most simultaneous titles in the top-selling charts by a single artist. On Billboard magazine's pop catalog chart, for example, the band had 16 titles in the top 50, including all 14 re-mastered CDs and two box sets. The Beatles' original U.K. studio albums were re-mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London over four years and released to coincide with the sale of "The Beatles: Rock Band" on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.
