Convorbirile telefonice şi SMS-urile vor fi înregistrate de operatorii de telefonie fixă şi mobilă şi vor fi stocate timp de şase luni, începând de astăzi, potrivit Legii 298/2008 privind reţinerea datelor generate sau prelucrate de furnizorii de servicii de comunicaţii electronice, intrată în vigoare. Astfel, toţi operatorii de telefonie fixă şi mobilă, precum Romtelecom, RDS&RCS, UPC, Orange, Vodafone, Cosmote şi Zapp sunt obligaţi să stocheze timp de şase luni numărul de telefon al apelantului şi al celui care a fost apelat, adresa abonatului, locaţia celui care este apelat, când a fost făcut apelul şi cât durează convorbirea telefonică. Tot din 20 ianuarie, toţi operatorii de telefonie fixă şi mobilă sunt obligaţi să stocheze timp de şase luni SMS-urile pe care le trimitem, cui şi când le trimitem.
