Federal data protection commissioner, Hanspeter Thuer states that Google’s “Street View” breaks strict privacy laws in failing to obscure people’s identity and demands Google remove all images in the country. This is not the first time Google has faced privacy complaints from institutions and/or individuals about its ’ Street View’ service.  In some instances Google has had to re-shoot all photos in a country or to remove their camera vans. It’s official, Skype, the extremey popular VOIP calling service has just been sold by eBay to a private equity firm under the name of Silver Lake Partners and VC firms Andreessen Horowitz and Index Ventures (incidentally a previous investor of Skype) and the Canada Pension Plan Investement board. The Silver Lake Partners is said to have paid the bulk of the $2.75 billion. EBay stills owns 35% of the company shares though, so they aren’t leaving the Skype completely while the rest of the investors total up to a healthy 65%, enough to take major decisions on their own.  In my personal opinion, Ebay just sold 65% of Skype for dirt cheap price, considering that they bought it at $3.1 billion way back in 2005. The dust has yet to settle on Facebook acquiring FriendFeed than, Myspace has announced the takeover of iLike. iLike a popular application for music on rival Facebook was said to have been purchased for $20 million (£12 million) in an attempt to expand MySpace following cuts and writedowns. iLike with a reported users of 55 million, will remain with the same management team.  iLike should enhance MySpaces share of games, songs and videos from their MySpace home pages. Facebook has approximately 10 million users of the iLike applications and iLike also incorporates song recommendations with attachments via Apple’s iTunes music store. Facebook commented that the acquisition of iLike by MySpace should not affect its users. For the moment, however iLike and MySpace will not be integrated and will continue to be run as two separate entity’s for the time being. [via] ... details >>>
