It takes one human being, on average, 2-3 seconds for someone to look you up and down and evaluate you when you meet for the first time. It is a subconscious action the mind undertakes and in this short time the person forms an opinion about you based on how you are dressed, your mannerisms and your body language. This impression is virtually impossible to undo as it is a subconscious action so this is a really important aspect of the process of finding a new job. Here are a few tips on how to create a good first impression at interview… Don't be late There is no excuse for lateness – all you have to do is plan, plan and plan again – set out your plan to arrive early wherever you are going and allow for traffic, delayed buses or going the wrong way. Even if you arrive an hour early it really doesn’t matter – take some reading material with you about the company you are going to interview at and give yourself more swotting up time! Just be yourself Don’t... details >>>

According to a recent survey of over 2,500 people undertaken by Keep Britain Working www.keepbritainworking.com Men and women across the UK are prepared to be flexible if it will stop them and their colleagues losing their jobs. This is what the survey showed, There are differences in the way men and women will support their colleagues. Men are more willing to accept a cut in pay (Men 34%; Women 24%) while Women are more willing to reduce their hours (Women 53%, Men 34%.) If, however, bosses asked for sacrifices without making any themselves women are more outraged than men and are more likely to take action - Women are more likely to challenge their boss (more than half of all women compared to 47% of Men) and Women are also more likely to take strike action (4% of women compared to 3% of Men.) // < ![CDATA[ google_ad_client = "pub-8661524010035949"; /* 468x60, created 14/07/09 */ google_ad_slot = "9249173775"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_... details >>>

Recent Drinkaware research has revealed that in the months since the start of the recession there has been a defined change in the UK's alcohol consumption patterns. Of the 2000 people they interviewed in a survey, 61% of those who knew someone who has been made redundant in the last six months - including themselves - said that they are concerned about the increase in their alcohol consumption. One in 10 (11%) of them are drinking “a lot more”, while nearly three-quarters (71%) of them put this increase in drinking alcohol directly to redundancy. Everybody deals with redundancy in their own way; many see it as an opportunity to do something completely different with their lives, but coping with the initial shock can be hard to say the least. “These figures don’t surprise me,” says consultant psychologist Dr Michael Sinclair of the City Psychological Group. “Redundancy triggers our underlying insecurities and drinking is often a coping mechanism to deal with these... details >>>

[caption id="attachment_407" align="alignright" width="225" caption="Motivation - Eliminating negatives"][/caption] Motivational Matters - Eliminating negatives You are the cause of all of your effects, if you can programme your life to think positively in everything you do, you will start to find that things literally fall into place, things you thought were impossible will start to be possible and its you that can make it happen. There are many reasons for negativity and it’s hard to break free of these forces, maybe they have become comfortable, they have been with you for a long time and they have become a habit that you have accepted. You may have brainwashed yourself, or you may have let people do it unknowingly,  your partner, manager, parents, teachers, friends they all mean well and want you to be happy, but is their notion of happiness the same as yours or is theirs that you should just be satisfied with your lot? Make this rule... details >>>

Whilst driving through my local town this weekend I noticed that there is an increasing amount of empty units on the high street, no doubt not just in my town but countless others around the UK, apart from making towns look rather sad, these units are a great commodity of wasted space that could be temporarily utilised during these slow economic times giving enterprising people a no nonsense opportunity for five minutes punting at the town centre shoppers, giving the town centre a new twist by doing something different, whilst also producing revenue for landlords. What a great opportunity for people to show case their skills, generate money by selling unwanted items, (look at the success of car boot sales these days) the units could be used for  short periods by individuals wanting to do anything from a house clearance through to running an exhibition or a sale of something quirky. A modest daily fee could be paid for its use, which could include utilities etc, getting... details >>>

The personal, negative, emotional reverberations felt as a result of job loss, redundancy or business failure can cause lasting confidence damage on many levels continuing for months even years in some cases. My story is that of business failure, in the tough economic climate debtors failed to pay on time some not at all, as a leader of an organisation issues lie closely at your own door until you find a solution.  Ongoing struggles with debtors, court cases and making every human attempt to recoup what is owed in order to pay the creditors that have the same frustrations recouping their money makes major impacts on your life, emotions and family.   After much deliberation and thought I made a difficult decision to cease trading at the end of 2008, I found myself in a position I never thought I would, negative and lacking focus, feeling anger towards all that had been involved in causing this disappointing end to ten years of hard work, leading many successful ... details >>>
