Ediţia din acest an a Globurilor de Aur a readus fastul hollywoodian la hotelul Beverly Hilton din Beverly Hills, situat în partea de vest a oraşului Los Angeles, după ce, în 2008, festivitatea s-a transformat într-o conferinţă de presă, în semn de solidaritate cu greva scenariştilor americani. Din acest motiv premiul Cecil B. DeMille, acordat anul trecut regizorului american Steven Spielberg, pentru întreaga carieră, i-a fost înmânat acestuia la ediţia din 2009 a galei Globurilor de Aur. Marele câştigător la ediţia din acest an a Globurilor de Aur a fost filmul "Slumdog Millionaire", în regia lui Danny Boyle.
