The Ovi Store’s been in business for about more than 5 months right now. Bill Perry is the Sr. Services Marketing Manager for Forum Nokia, and posted the statistics of the Ovi Store so far. The following stats are from 26 May through 31 October: * Available on over 100 different Nokia devices (60+ Symbian S60 devices) * Active users from over 180 countries * Developers from 65 countries are distributing content * 8 countries today have local content, local language support and mobile billing: UK, Spain, France, Germany, Singapore, Australia, Italy, Russia. The little brother of the N97 sure seems to be getting a lot more loving. Earlier today, the GSMA announced that the Nokia N97 Mini had won their award for “Best Mobile Handset“. I had a play with one at the Nokia N-Tourage N97 Mini launch in Bangalore, and it definitely felt and worked a lot better than the ol’N97. The Blogosphere’s a buzz with a recent report that Nokia will be ditching Symbian in their high end Nseries devices, which will in-turn be powered by the Maemo OS instead. Apparently a Maemo Representative from Nokia told this to Ben Smith over at TRMP during a recent N900 Meetup. Symbian will continue to be an integral part of Nokia’s XpressMusic, Xseries and Eseries devices though, but the Nseries devices will run on the eye-candy & feature rich Maemo OS. Here’s Nokia’s official response to the matter : While it is our policy not to disclose details of our product roadmap, we’d like to explicitly communicate that we remain firmly committed to Symbian as our smartphone platform of choice. Any speculation on what our 2012 roadmap, including operating systems and product branding, are completely premature. Nokia has launched the N97 Mini in India today, with a two day event called the “N-Tour-age” (get it ? Sounds like ‘Entourage’ ? Ha). As you might already know, the N97 ‘Mini’, is the smaller brother of the Original N97. The Mini being smaller, with just 8GB of memory (vs the 32GB on the N97), a slightly smaller 3.2″ screen (vs the 3.5″ of the original) and 250mb of internal phone memory which should solve the phone memory problems that plagued the Original N97. Today was the launch event in Delhi, and tomorrow’s the second launch event in Bangalore (which we will be attending). The event is also a a focused group interaction with Mr. Jonne Harju, Senior Design Manager at Nokia Design Studio. Fresh from his last great Maemo 5 Theme, Tehkseven’s bought us another great creation in the form of his “Just Black” super lightweight theme : The theme weighs in at just 280Kb and uses default icons to keep its size down. I’ve always been a bit bothered by themes that are too big, and might hamper the performance of my device. Just Black is a refreshingly light theme that makes your S60 Symbian device look stylish, without affecting its performance at all. Nokia Messaging IM Beta had a minor update today, to v2.0.7 which now has support for MSN Live Messenger. Yup, you can now sign in and chat with your MSN Live buddies, using the IM Beta.Yay !
