The American farmers who will use carbofuran pesticide to treat their crops come December 31 will be prosecuted by the United States Food and Drug Administration. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances carbofuran doesn't comply with the food safety standards and the EPA announced a ban on the usage of the pesticide after a six-month long study as well as public comment. The short-term as well as long-term health effects from the use of highly toxic carbamate pesticide, carbofuran, were studied which include headaches, nausea, sweating, chest pain, diarrhea, blurred vision, muscle weakness and anxiety from the pesticide residues on foods. That's the name of a new refrigerant that's reportedly 350-times less damaging to the atmosphere than the current HFC-134a (or 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane, if you prefer). You may recall that today's refrigerant was actually put into widespread use back in the early 1990s as a replacement for the long-running R12 that was found to be collecting in and damaging our delicate ozone layer. Well, it turns out that HFC-134a isn't as good a solution as hoped for. As such, the refrigerant has been banned in Europe beginning in 2011 and it seems likely the United States will follow suit. The system makes it difficult for a consumer to relate to the resulting numbers "in any meaningful way to actual vehicle performance." GM’s New Chevy Volt Expected to Get 230 MPG - One of the hottest announcements this week, or even this month, has been that GM’s Volt will be electronic vehicle that will get 230 miles per gallon! The car comes as a forefront of GM’s 25 new vehicles expected out in 2011.
