Usb Microphone On Wii Not Working With Guitar Hero Or American Idol?

I'm trying to use a generic USB microphone which I read was supposed to work with both of these games but neither game is recognizing it. I have two Wiimotes connected and currently not the guitar connected but it still won't work in either game. The microphone works in my computer and the USB ports on my Wii work to charge my cellphone so both devices are functioning.
