Why Would Someone Decorate Their House And Yard In Halloween Lights At The Beginning Of October?

There's a guy on my street who doesn't work. He just stays home all day watching people. Well, yesterday he spent the whole day decorating his house in halloween lights. It's only October 5th. Now his whole house and yard looks like a haunted house. It seems kind of insane to me to do this already at the beginning of the month. Is it just me?
